Congratulations to Dr. Guilherme de Moraes Nobrega on Being Named a 2026 Pew Latin American Fellow

A huge congratulations to Dr. Guilherme de Moraes Nobrega, who has been selected as one of just 10 scientists worldwide to receive the prestigious 2026 Pew Latin American Fellows Program in the Biomedical Sciences award.

This highly competitive fellowship recognizes the most promising young biomedical scientists from Latin America and supports their postdoctoral training at leading research institutions in the United States. Being chosen places Guigo among an exceptional group of rising international researchers poised to make a lasting impact on biomedical science.

In the Lim Lab, Guigo is investigating one of the most pressing questions in maternal-fetal virology: how mpox virus infection during pregnancy affects both mother and fetus. His work combines cutting-edge animal models and human placental systems to uncover the mechanisms of viral transmission across the placenta and identify why pregnancy can increase susceptibility to severe viral disease.
